Jota Becomes Portugal's "28th Honorary Member"

At the pre-match press conference, Portuguese player Vitinha stated that the Portuguese Prime Minister presented each player with a wristband bearing the names of all players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, and their late teammate Jota. The entire team decided to wear these wristbands during the match.
In addition to wearing wristbands in memory of Jota, head coach Martinez also referred to Jota, who will never wear the number 21 soccer shirt again, as the team's "28th honorary member." The Portuguese Football Federation used the expression "27+1" when announcing the World Cup roster, explicitly including Jota.
Jota's close friend Ruben Neves accepted his number 21 Portugal jersey and also has a tattoo of him embracing Jota on his calf. Portugal's first match of this World Cup will be against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Houston.
